CHAFFCOMBE RINGERS GO TO NEWQUAY
At the end of October (31st) 19 of us descended on Newquay for a long weekend. Seven of us were Chaffcombe ringers. We contacted St Columb Minor ringers to ask whether we could ring at their church. We explained that only one of us was experienced and asked whether any of their ringers to accompany us. The answer was ‘yes’.
We arrived at St Columb Minor at 4.30 p.m. only to find five of their ringers had come along to ring with us and help us. We really appreciated this and they all were very helpful and friendly. Needless to say we did not do call changes as quick as they usually do but more slowly as we do in Somerset.
The tower is one on the tallest in Cornwall. The ringing chamber is on the ground floor with a long shaft but they did have guides for the ropes. We were all a bit apprehensive at first but found them easy to ring and we all thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity. Thank you St Columb Minor.
The same evening was Halloween and this is what we all got up to! Yes, of course, we all dressed up and then walked the town!!
