Music at The Old Rectory
Berkeley Ensemble Chamber Music Course
Friday 29th April – Monday 2nd May 2016
It’s that time of year! Once again, following on from the two previous very successful courses, Chaffcombe is about to welcome another cheerful gathering of chamber musicians and their tutors. This year there are ten participants and three tutors, and the village will resound with the sound of music……
As before, there will be three opportunities for you to join the musicians and enjoy the fruits of their labours.
Firstly, at 8pm on Friday 29th April, the tutors will be put through their paces in the studio at The Old Rectory in the opening Tutors’ Concert. The programme will include Glinka’s Trio Pathétique in D minor. We hope you will be able to join us for the concert and for a glass of wine afterwards.
On Sunday May 1st, at 7.30 pm, there will be the Course Dinner in Chaffcombe Village Hall. This is a very jolly event, and includes musical entertainment from the tutors, a two-course professionally catered meal with wine and the chance to relax and chat with the musicians. Tickets for the evening are £25 per head, and worth every penny!
Finally, the participants will give their concert at 3 pm on Monday May 2nd, at The Old Rectory. This is their opportunity to perform the music on which they have been working so hard over the weekend. We hope you will come and support them and wish them bon voyage and aufwiedersehn!
Please let me know by email (email@example.com) or phone (01460 67200) if you would like to reserve seats at any or all of the above events. Donations after the concerts will be supporting Cancer Research UK. If you would like tickets to the dinner, please let me have cash or a cheque payable to The Berkeley Ensemble.
And finally………STOP PRESS!!!!!!!
Five wind-playing members of the Berkeley Ensemble will be coming to stay with us for a few days’ intensive rehearsal the following weekend, prior to some important performances and the possibility of a live Radio 3 broadcast they have coming up shortly afterwards. They would love to give us a dry-run performance so please come along and be an appreciative audience for them in our studio on Sunday 8th May at 3pm. The programme will include Michael Berkeley’s “Catch Me if You Can” and Colin Matthews’ Five Concertinos, and the instruments being played include alto flute, bass clarinet, cor anglais. Eb clarinet and piccolo…….
And a note for your diary – Sunday 26th June at 3pm – recital by Gillian Wormley (soprano) and Din Ghani (lute)
