The day started with a cloudy outlook but the Chaffcombe walk took place with its new leader Tony Gray and eleven walkers.
We followed Summers Lane to Whitemore Hill and walked up the track to Lydmarsh. Here we followed the footpath through Bales’ farm on to the fields which took us to Young Copse through which we walked. We saw the two newly planted sweet chestnut trees which appear to be doing well.
Golfers stopped play as we walked the footpath across the Golf Course and everyone arrived in Redscript Lane safe and well. We then followed the lane down Knapps Lane and finally entered the woods down the lane (prior permission having been granted by the owner) following an unofficial path back down towards the waterwheel. Whilst walking through the woods we came across some very beautiful red fungi (see photograph below) and we noticed that the wild daffodils were in bud.
During the walk the sunshine appeared and we all enjoyed the gentle exercise. We cleared overgrowth and cut back some branches which extended across the footpaths.
