Dear all
We did not succeed in walking Sprays Hill this month as the weather was too dire, so in the hope that next Tuesday may be ok I thought we should try again.
So this is what is planned:-
Chaffcombe Parish Walk Tuesday 5th November at 10.00am
Village Hall – Knapps Lane (east) – Sprays Hill – Cricket Lane (west) – Ashton – Knowle Lane (west) – Woodhouse Farm – Chaffcombe Lane – Village Hall
It is likely to be wet and muddy underfoot and we should be prepared to do some cutting back, particularly prickly broom. If we are going well or the weather is aginst us we might vary the route on the day.
I attended a Somerset Council Rights of Way Somerset Local Access Forum (SLAF) last week and it was disclosed that Rights of Way will suffer cut backs on funding and numbers and will be looking to parishes to take more responsibilty for maintaining footpaths, so it is even more important that we undertake these monthly walks.
I have also heared from the local RofW Ranger Daniel Gordon that the number of Rangers in Somerset will be reduced from 7 to 4 so that those left will be covering much bigger areas, equivalent to the old local council patches eg South Somerset in Daniels case.
I hope you will be able to come and enjoy the walk and company
Best wishes
