Welcome to this e-letter, and I hope it finds you well.
We are in the first full week of Lent, and it was lovely to be able to spend some time leading the first session of the Lent Course on Tuesday in person for the first time since Lent 2019. Thank you to all who came, and we are really looking forward to the rest of the series. ALL are very welcome and even if you could not make the first one – you will not be left out by joining us next week. Details further below.
The first session was exploring the different styles and traditions of the Christian cross, and including time making our own crosses from a variety of materials. There is something incredibly powerful about making a cross as a Christian, because it is not possible to do so without actively considering what it means to you. It is like trying to look at a word without reading it – you can’t do it. And so, in the experience of using your hands to fashion or draw a cross you are exploring what it means for you, and your creative output will be heavily influenced by that. It is a spiritual journey of surprising depth, and as I think the group discovered on Tuesday, very life giving.
Here is a photo of the ones we made together, and I invite you to try it for yourselves!
