Christmas Church Services

Dear all

Christmas is nearly upon us!  Very early on Tuesday morning we decided to break beyond the bounds of the local area and head to the relative metropolis that is Yeovil and the 24 Hour Tesco, with the intention of ‘getting the big shop done’ for Christmas.  It was a dawn raid – carefully planned with two lists – one for Christmas Day (Michelle’s trolley with Andrew as navigator), and one for the weekly shop (my trolley with Bethany navigating).  Breakfast was packed, coffee in a flask, Clubcard vouchers saved from the year in pocket – we were ready.  About 3 hours later we were back, feeling very chuffed with ourselves.  Mission accomplished.

5 minutes later that annoying discovery – we forgot the coffee, we should have got more bananas…

And so there has now been a clear up shop.  And I doubt it is the last….

No matter how well planned we are – perhaps we are never fully ready – because there is always something else.  In our busyness about tomorrow we can forget to live today.

Christmas Day is on Saturday whether we like it or not!  Ready or not here it comes!  Perhaps the only way to truly be ready is to accept that we will never be ‘ready’, that actually it is about being ok with where we are?

Jesus arrived on earth when no-one was expecting him, and where no-one was expecting him – at least not right then and not in that way!  But those who were there with their eyes and hearts open witnessed the greatest moment in history, past present and future; nothing less than God incarnate.

Celebrate this Christmas knowing that God loves you for exactly who you are, where you are, and really doesn’t mind if you forgot the mulled wine…  (memo to self)

Advent Zoom

Just a reminder that we have the fourth and final Advent evening prayer session on Zoom today at 7:30pm.  The link is the same as last week and is below.  This week we are thinking about our how we respond to the incarnation ourselves.  All welcome!

Song

I choose white, but with
Red on it, like the snow
In winter with its few
Holly berries and the one

Robin, that is a fire
To warm by and like Christ
Comes to us in his weakness,
But with a sharp song.

Blessings to you all,

Philip
