I hope you are keeping well and at least being able to make the best of the sunny weather – although the garden would I think rather like some sustained water now!
Today is Ascension Day, which marks 40 days from Easter Day and the day we celebrate the ‘ascension’ of Jesus to his Father in heaven.
If you are able, do join us on Zoom for a live Evening Worship at 1930. Here is the link you need and the password:

Ascension to Pentecost
The 10 days of Ascension to Pentecost is an important period where we prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit. The first disciples spent the time watching and waiting, and therefore so do we. But it is not a period of waiting in the same way that Advent or Lent are. In these days we are filled with the joy of following the risen Christ from Easter morning and the wonder of his ascension to heaven with the promise of the Spirit to come.
Spend this time reflecting on what living as a Christian means to you and, when we arrive at the festival of Pentecost what the Spirit may affirm in you and also open your eyes to. Some words of Peace that are often said in these days:
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace. If we live in the Spirit, let us walk in the Spirit”
Thy Kingdom Come
As has become a global tradition, this period between Ascension and Pentecost is also when we celebrate ‘Thy Kingdom Come’. It is a period where we focus and immerse ourselves in prayer, and in particular the Lord’s Prayer, as Jesus himself taught his disciples to do. On our own resource site; https://twoshires.wordpress.com, from tomorrow (22nd May) you will find a dedicated page for Thy Kingdom Come with some ideas you may want to engage with.
Please do also visit https://www.thykingdomcome.global/ where you will find lots of content and ideas for this period.
It is particularly poignant this year as it reminds us that even though we may be disparate, we are still a praying community. Not just in our home and parishes, but all around the world.

Prayer for Today:
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ
to have ascended into the heavens,
so we in heart and mind may also ascend
and with him continually dwell;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
With every blessing,
The Reverend Philip Butcher
